Wanda Pratschke

Traum II Kopf, 2025

Bronze | 83 x 83 x 65 cm

It is always the human being and their expression that arouse my interest. It is about trapped life, sensuality and grace – a process that takes time. When I then manage to create timelessness in the sculpture, it surprises me or other viewers.

A Closer Look at the Work

With Dream II (Head) Martina Pratschke focuses her gaze on the fragment and focuses entirely on the head as a place of thought, remembrance, and imagination. The organic modeling and the interplay between smooth and rough surfaces make the process of creation visible and give the bronze a lively materiality.

The title refers less to sleep than to a state between consciousness and imagination, between reality and inner experience. The sculpture is at once archaic and timeless, inviting us to understand the human head not as a portrait but as a landscape of the inner self.

Like many of Pratschke’s works, this work also condenses human presence into a quiet, concentrated form. It speaks of attitude, dignity, and inner movement and demonstrates the artist’s special ability to translate emotional states into plastic form.

About the Artist

The sculptor Wanda Pratschke is one of those artistic figures that shape the public space in Frankfurt am Main. Since the dedication of her first sculpture Betty in the Wallanlagen in 1984, she has been represented in the cityscape with several works, including Die Unbesiegbare (2022) on Adornoplatz at Goethe University. With her distinctive signature, Pratschke combines traditional figuration with a powerful, contemporary interpretation of the human body. Her sculptures are the result of an intense engagement with form, material, and movement, always guided by a deep understanding of the interplay between figure, space, and the viewer.
At the Union area, Pratschke presents two works that impressively illustrate the wide range of his work: Anja 1977/2025 and Traum II (Head).
