The Art of unionität

Eberhard F. Gutberlet

Ein Stern hat noch Licht

For those who look for stars in the dark.

„Ein Stern hat noch Licht"Nothing, nothing is lost.”

An aluminum plaque Eberhard F. Gutberlet preserves a fragment of Paul Celan. Words that breathe hope despite the deepest darkness. Next to it stands Friedhelm Welgea sculpture — a reminder of Dietrich Bonhoeffer the man who was murdered in the Flossenbürg concentration camp in 1945.

Welge sees him as a modern Christopher. Like the patron saint of travelers, Bonhoeffer helped his fellow prisoners preserve their dignity — in the midst of great distress, against the executioners, with a spirit that remained invincible.

Two testimonies of resistance. In one place.

„We are never completely in the dark as long as a star still has light.“

A Closer Look at the Work

Paul Celan and Rose Ausländer both came from the German-Jewish cultural tradition in Czernowitz. They met in the ghetto, survived, and later found themselves in Paris — where Celan encouraged Ausländer to radically renew their poetry.

That both texts have now found their place here on the grounds, each corresponding to a sculpture by Welge, weaves an invisible web of history and shared origins. A dialogue about survival. And about the power of language.
